Viral social media posts claiming that Real Madrid has officially completed the signing of Julián Álvarez by triggering his €500 million release clause are inaccurate. While Real Madrid did make a monumental €150 million bid for the 26-year-old Argentine forward, Atlético Madrid swiftly and brutally rejected the offer.

Rather than engaging in negotiations, Atlético Madrid has drawn a hard line in the sand. Club president Enrique Cerezo has publicly declared Álvarez to be an "unsellable" asset, pointing to his massive €500 million release clause as the only legitimate route for a transfer to happen. Despite their strong interest, reports confirm that Real Madrid is not prepared to pay this astronomical fee, which is seen more as a strict barrier than a market valuation and would completely shatter the world transfer record previously set by Neymar.

This transfer saga has only fueled the bitter rivalry between the two Madrid clubs. In response to Real Madrid's approach, Atlético released a highly sarcastic public statement mocking their neighbors. The statement explicitly clarified that they are not evaluating any offers for Álvarez and jokingly thanked Real Madrid for "making us laugh" even more than Barcelona does. As it stands, the €500 million clause is holding firm, and this historic transfer is far from being a done deal.
